The animation is the result of a FSI coupled MSC.Dytran analysis of a mortar launching from a barrel. The barrel is a flexible (Langrangian) body and the results on the barrel shows the Von Mises stress shock waves generated by the dynamic pressure pulses from the gas (Euler) inside the barrel. The mortar is modeled as a rigid body together with a pressure ring that keeps the gas from leaking around the mortar to ensure maximum momentum transfer. The explosive inside the mortar tail as well as the fuel ring around the tail is modeled using the hot gas method. This can easily be changed into JWL or Ignition Growth explosive material models to simulate the detonating process more accurately.
