manifold-image3_smUnleash the power of Harpoon for the Conceptual Design Phase

In the engineering design cycle of new products, being able to incorporate dynamic, and quick responding CFD engineering into the initial concept phase is becoming increasingly important. Harpoon answers this need with extremely powerful and rapid mesh generation routines allowing concept design engineers to utilize the power of CFD in the initial phases of design.

In this example, Harpoon was utilized by an automotive after market manufacturing company to generate quick, accurate, and flexible grid domains for a new automotive inlet manifold concept. The design engineers at this company needed to make some initial design decisions about the overall shape, layout, and configuration of the manifold to quickly narrow down the concept phase, and hone in towards a final design.

Previous CFD mesh modeling routines required either expert knowledge and/or a significant time relative to the short cycles of concept engineering, therefore meshing was not previously incorporated into the conceptual design phase. With Harpoon, the design engineers were allowed access to the power of CFD to help guide their conceptual design phases and therefore produce a more effective, efficient conceptual design in much less time.

In less than one morning of elapsed time, the design engineers had successfully used Harpoon and CFD to provide them with the engineering information necessary to prove out initial design concepts and quickly determine an initial working conceptual design.
