Harpoon version 2.5 nears release
CEI’s extreme mesher, Harpoon, is going to be even better with April's planned release of version 2.5.
Harpoon 2.5 will feature many internal improvements and a few major enhancements including:
- Option for additional mesh optimization to accelerate convergence for CFD simulations
- Improved matched meshing, useful when the preservation of an existing surface mesh is desired
- Additional features resulting from intensive collaboration ongoing between the Harpoon development staff and customers in the automotive and oil & gas industries.
Pressure contours on a mosquito with an
iso-surface of 0.7 m/s velocity. Capturing large variations in the
dimensions of details while yielding high quality cells and a low
overall cell count pose serious challenges to traditional mesh
generators. Harpoon's unique technology, combining Cartesian octree
and accurate boundary-fitting hybrid meshes, make the program ideal for
such complex problems in science and industry. Image courtesy of Matt

Harpoon version 3.0, slated for release summer 2007, will feature direct CAD readers, additional exporters for mesh formats as well as an option to generate polyhedral cells. The CAD reader feature is now in beta testing and is available to selected users upon request.
